Dermot GlenndaloughMarch 16 – April 13, 2026. Between Stone and Sky: A Bicycle Tour of Ireland by Dermot O’Carroll.

Saturday and Sunday April 11, 12 from 1.00 pm – 4.00 pm.

Dermot O’Carroll joined the club in 2012. He is chairing the club’s workshops and thanks to Dermot’s efforts members have had many opportunities to participate in hands on sessions, polishing their skills and deepening their understanding of what is behind of a good photograph.

However, we have had few chances to see Dermot’s own photographs. He is one of those members of the club – comprising, by the way, more than two thirds of the membership – who, for one reason or the other, do not participate in competitions and rarely show their images during club events.

Fortunately, this exhibition fills that void. It consists of charming images of coastal Ireland taken during the 3.500 km bicycle tour along country roads, hills, mountains and valleys of endless beauty. The photographs reflect a poetic soul immersed in the landscape, guided by a loving and attentive eye.

Lawrence has been a member of the Toronto Camera Club since 2019 and chaired the Lecture Series for several years, during which time club members benefited from a wide range of distinguished presenters. In 2022, he held an exceptional solo exhibition at the Powell Gallery titled Metropolis – A Photographic Exploration of My City. His work was also included in group exhibitions at the Powell Gallery during the CONTACT 2023, 24 and 25 photography festivals.

Lawrence’s artistic journey was born out of a career in the Earth Sciences. He has had a life-long passion for both photography and the Earth Sciences and holds MSc and PhD degrees in the Earth Sciences. His photography expresses a deep curiosity about the patterns, structure, and substance of human and natural environments. Lawrence describes Memories of Mongolia as an exploration of windblown sand, sweeping curves, deep shadows, flat and flinty landscapes, muted earth tones, deep valleys, high hills, and proud, beautiful people.

Abstract photography explores the expressive potential of form, colour, light, and texture beyond recognizable subjects. By emphasizing visual elements rather than literal representation, these images invite viewers to engage with perception itself — to see familiar materials and spaces in unfamiliar ways. This exhibition will present works that challenge the boundaries of photographic realism, offering a contemplative experience where meaning emerges through rhythm, structure, and the play of light.
