This trophy was donated in 1975 by Dorothy and Syd Buckley (Past President 1979-1981) who wished to encourage beginners in colour pictorial and nature photography. It was designed by Dorothy, who wanted something free-form and natural. A suitable piece of driftwood they found at Fahrquar Lake was attached to a base made of a piece of maple from an old tree in the Buckley’s garden. A trophy shop added the figure of the photographer. It was originally awarded for Pictorial and Nature Slides and then for digital Projected Images and Nature Images. Commencing in 2012 it is awarded for the most winning images in the Beginners Division.
