This trophy was presented to the Club by Mr. Walter A. Carveth, President of Walter A. Carveth Ltd., Canadian distributors of Leica cameras. The trophy was meant to stimulate the art of photography. It was originally awarded for outstanding photographic achievement but the Board ceased awarding it in 1976. In 2012 it was reinstated to be awarded for the most winning images in the Masters Division.
